Distances & Disciplines Reveal | Merrell Transkei Tuff

With just a few days away from the start of the 2022 Merrell Transkei Tuff, here are the distances of each disciplines!

M O U N T A I N B I K E

The Merrell Transkei Tuff will have ONE MTB leg during the course of the race. the 60km route will take you through a compass-spinning forest, that will challenge even the most skilled navigator as well as rural single track with epic canyon views. Teams will be crossing multiple rivers with one specific “secret crossing” that has been used for hundreds of years by the AmaXhosa herders.. it’s up to you to see if you can find the exact crossing or else… enjoy the swim!

Let’s break down the Trek Legs for the Merrell Transkei Tuff 2022.

There are 3 Trek Legs over the course of the race, including swimming across rivers, kloofing, and abseil. Keeping warm as night falls will be a key point, especially towards the end of the race. In NO particular order:

± 9 km (700m Elevation)

± 17 km (500m Elevation)

± 3 km (100m Elevation)

K A Y A K

Teams can expect to kayak along one of the most significant rivers that the Wild Coast boasts.

This 10km straight line kayak leg is quite straightforward, offering no technical or navigational skills other than following your nose. A welcome reprieve after the previous monster leg.

If you are fast enough you just might enjoy the sunset view with not a soul in sight…

Don’t forget your Paddle and PFD, which are compulsory for this discipline, at home!
